Travel Through Time 1899

WITH THIS BOOK, THE CHRONICLE OF THE PAST EXPLAINS THE PRESENT. This first large-format (22x28 cm) black-and-white paperback volume of the series A Journey Through Time with La Domenica del Corriere” contains 74 images, both front and back covers of the weekly magazine from the years 1899 1900, along with some photographs taken at the time using the first Kodak 6x9 cm roll-film camera. Each image is accompanied by a detailed description that places it accurately within its historical context, thanks to the meticulous research of co-author Eva. As in every era, journalistic chronicles reported the events that people learned about through different means of communication: town criers, songs, papyri, parchments, printed paper and, more recently, newspapers, radio, television, and finally, the internet. The media may change, but the news remains the same! By revisiting the magnificent illustrations created by the great artist Achille Beltrame, published weekly starting in 1899, and reading their informative content, we can still today, after so much time, experience the same emotions as our ancestors who read them then—almost as if they were watching the illustrated events unfold on a kind of virtual television. Beltrame’s illustrations offer an extraordinary vision of disasters, wars, earthquakes, floods, accidents, attacks, femicides, inventions, exhibitions, buildings, new ships, sporting events, railways, romances, weddings, transportation, elections, conflicts, conquests, ceremonies, crimes, migrations, killings, tragedies, religions, shows, funerals, coronations, environment, storms, eruptions, inaugurations, medical treatments, monsters, miners, balloons, airplanes, automobiles, bicycles, carriages, oddities, and much more.
